2Futuro Scholarship Sweepstakes

A $1,000 scholarship will be randomly awarded on a monthly basis. Students and their parents can register in three ways: 1) Apply for a 2Futuro loan, 2) Register online at 2Futuro, or 3) Mail a 3 x 5 card listing your name, mailing address, e-mail address, and phone number. Application deadline: Monthly on the 15th.

USA Funds
Access to Education Scholarship®
USA Funds® will award $1,500 individual scholarships to students with economic need through USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships. USA Funds is the nation’s leading education loan guarantor. A nonprofit organization, USA Funds works to enhance postsecondary education preparedness, access and success by providing and supporting financial and other valued services.

Applications will be accepted online beginning Dec. 15, 2009, through Feb. 15, 2010. The scholarships are non-renewable, but students may reapply in subsequent years, as long as their cumulative awards under the program do not exceed $6,000.

The Sallie Mae Fund Scholarship Programs

Addressing financial need through scholarships is one of the key elements of The Sallie Mae Fund's efforts. Since 2001, The Sallie Mae Fund has awarded more than $15.5 million in scholarships to more than 6,350 students.

American Dream Scholarship
Established in partnership with the United Negro College Fund, the American Dream Scholarship Program is open to African Americans with financial need. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, with a minimum 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), who meet Pell Grant eligibility criteria, and are enrolled full time at approved, accredited, undergraduate institutions. Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000.

Community College Transfer Scholarship
Offered in collaboration with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, this program provides scholarships to Latino students transferring from a community college to an approved, accredited higher education institution.

First in My Family® Initiative
Developed in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund, offers scholarships to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family to attend college, and have financial need. The program is open to Hispanic Americans who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents enrolled as full time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000.

Unmet Need Scholarship Program
Open to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, this program is intended to supplement financial aid packages that fall more than $1,000 short of students' financial need. This scholarship is not designed as a substitute for aid provided by an institution. The program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) to be eligible to apply. Recipients will be selected based on financial need. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,000.

"Writers of Passage" Scholarships
In partnership with the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO), this program involves an essay competition that awards winning students from an Historically Black College or University, or a predominantly black college, with a $5,000 college scholarship. Universities that scholarship winners are attending will also receive a $20,000 grant from The Sallie Mae Fund.

Horatio Alger Scholarship Program

The Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Program is open to high school seniors planning to pursue a bachelor's degree. Eligible applicants must demonstrate critical financial need, integrity, hard work, determination, and perseverance in overcoming adversity. The award also requires a certain level of academic achievement (minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale) and some involvement in co-curricular and community activities. Scholarship awards range from $1,000-$10,000. Residency requirements may apply for some scholarships.

Sallie Mae/Brandon Teacher Scholarship

The Sallie Mae James Brandon Teachers scholarships were established in 1999 to offer college-bound seniors intending to pursue careers in education, assistance in meeting the financial needs to attend college.

The scholarship was endowed through a gift from Sallie Mae and its long time board member and Texas native, James E. Brandon. Managed by the Opportunity Plan, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides low-interest loans and scholarships to students who are not eligible for financial aid through other sources.

As part of Sallie Mae's community outreach, the scholarship is only offered to students in the following regions:

  • Wilkes-Barre, PA
  • Killeen, TX
  • Panama City, FL
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Reston, VA
  • Marlton, NJ
